about

London-based John Myrtle shares new album cut ‘Spider On The Wall’, a playful track telling the story of a spider watching the world from behind closed doors. It’s the final cut from debut album Myrtle Soup released 18th June, an exploration of love and identity, packaged into a heart-warming entity, via London-based label Sad Club. ‘Spider On The Wall’ follows on the heels of previous tracks ‘Get Her Off My Mind’ and ‘How Can You Tell If You Love Her?’.

Trapped in a regressive daily routine of working from home in pyjamas and wondering how others are handling it, ‘Spider on the Wall’ exhibits this curiosity. Encapsulated in a time where freedom was sparse, it takes the viewpoint of a spider, who has the ability to go into others homes and see life from their side. Imagining a world in which the grass is always greener, the spider ventures into other houses, and is in fact repulsed and underwhelmed by their private life.

“I thought a song that told a story behind closed doors was very fitting for the time we were all living in. With the whole album being written and performed at home in lockdown, writing and singing as a spider was freeing in a weird way. I was able to leave my house and go write about someone else’s. Instead of envying the other people’s lives, he’s disgusted by them, and finds out that his home is the most comfortable of all!”
